Be a Buddy, Not a Bully…

This past week started out with a collaboration meeting of the K-5 media specialists as we worked on a spreadsheet documenting technology resources that align with the Common Core standards being taught at each grade level.  Technology is literally changing every second…there are so many exciting technology options to offer our students!

On Thursday Riverside students and staff had their school pictures taken in the library – which makes for a bustling good time!

Kindergartners enjoyed finding out how Clifford handled his first autumn in the read-aloud Clifford’s 1st Autumn by Norman Bridwell.  Several are enjoying visiting their library before school to check out a new book each day they return one.  They also enjoyed a “visit” from Mr. Bear and helped him practice using body basics while listening to a story.

1st graders connected with Franklin and how fragile friendship can be in Franklin Is Bossy.  We are still practicing using our library buddies to check out books from the shelves.

2nd graders and I discussed bullying and read the story Nobody Knew What to Do.  Being National Bullying Awareness Day this week, this was a good connection to Mrs. Reinardy’s guidance curriculum.

3rd graders learned the importance on online safety and not sharing personal information online.  We used our Tumblebooks subscription to view the e-book Little Red in Cyberspace, which gave an excellent overview of the topic.  Students also had a chance to blog their answer to this week’s Question of the Week on our library Kidblog site.

4th graders and I discussed online safety and cyberbullying.  We used Brainpop to watch an online video on Cyberbullying and took the review quiz.  Students also had a chance to blog their answer to this week’s Question of the Week on our library Kidblog site.

5th graders went through online scenarios with me and I was happy to see that many of them were aware of the dangers of sharing personal information online.  We also discussed cyberbullying and watched the DVD 7 ways to Block a Cyberbully.  Students also had a chance to blog their answer to this week’s Question of the Week on our library Kidblog site.

Mrs. D. met with several classroom teachers throughout the week to set up collaboration projects utilizing all of the resources our library has to offer.  A list of past projects can be found under the Collaboration Success Stories link.
