This year we celebrated our 3rd annual Poem in Your Pocket day on April 17th. Earlier in the week Mrs. Marquardt’s 1st graders recorded individual poems for the Morning Announcements with Mrs. D. Please check out our morning announcements page by clicking here.
The past few weeks Kindergartners met with Mrs. D. to learn how to use Google Chrome as an alternative to Mozilla Firefox and we read the book Just a Gum Wrapper by Mercer Mayer. We discussed how we can take better care of our planet in preparation for Earth Day on April 22nd.
1st graders reviewed the IPICK method for choosing library books that are “just right” for themselves. Mrs. D. reminded them that one of their two books should be something they can read to themselves while the other book can be more challenging. “Quick read” books are marked with red dots in our library (just like the local public library) and that makes it easier for students to find.
2nd graders are continuing to use the online catalog to search for books, practicing locating books on the shelves. With over 14,000 books in our collection that can be a challenge!
There has been a great deal of research going on in our library since returning from spring break. 3rd graders have been finishing up informational reports (click here to see Mrs. Schwan’s Flipsnack book), 4th graders are working on their wax museum projects and 5th grade on biography research.
